1992 CENSUS OF CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES GENERAL SUMMARY INFORMATION A "construction establishment" is defined as a relatively permanent office, or other place of business, where the usual business activities related to construction are conducted. A separate census report was required from each sampled establishment covering domestic operations. Separate reports were not, however, required for each project or construction site. For 1987 and earlier censuses, receipts from the sale of land were collected separately for general contractors and operative builders. These receipts were included in the total dollar value of business done but excluded from the value of construction work done. For 1992, receipts from the sale of land were not collected separately but are still excluded from the value of construction work done. All dollar values are shown in current dollars for the years specified and have not been adjusted for inflation. The data in these files are estimated from a sample survey and are subject to sampling variability as well as errors of response and nonreporting. The relative standard error shown is a measure of sampling variability. Descriptions of the sampling, estimating procedures, and data reliability are included in the Methodology File (CC92.MTH).
