=>UNIVERSE DESCRIPTION

The universe is all financial, insurance, and
real estate establishments with payroll. 
Establishments with no paid employees are not
included in the Sources of Revenue files, but
are included in the Nonemployer Statistics
Series.  However, revenue line data was not
collected for nonemployers.


=>SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION

The information included on the Sources of
Revenue files of this CD-ROM is the same as
that shown in the printed Sources of Revenue
report, FC92-S-2.

These two files provide 1992 data by revenue
line code within kind of business and by kind
of business for each of the 61 broad
revenue line codes.  File 1 (FC92RL1.dbf) shows
the number of establishments reporting the line
and the revenue of the specified line; the
revenue of the line as a percentage of the
total revenue of the establishments reporting
the line; and the revenue of the line as a
percentage of the total revenue.  File 2
(FC92RL2.dbf) shows the number of
establishments reporting the line and the
revenue of that line (by kind of business
within broad revenue line); and percentage of
revenue of the broad revenue line by kind of
business.


=>GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE

Data is provided for the United States.


=>SIC/KIND-OF-BUSINESS DETAIL

The 1992 Census of Financial, Insurance, and
Real Estate Industries covers primarily the
fields of finance, insurance, and real estate
as defined in the 1987 Standard Industrial
Classification (SIC) Manual.  This includes
establishments classified in Major Groups
60-67.

Finance includes depository institutions,
nondepository credit institutions, holding (but
not predominantly operating) companies, other
investment companies, brokers and dealers in
securities and commodity contracts, and
security and commodity exchanges.  Insurance
covers carriers of all types of insurance and
insurance agents and brokers.  Real estate
includes owners, lessors, lessees, agents, and
developers of real estate.  The Census excludes
Government-operated businesses. 



The Revenue Line files present data for
selected SIC or kind-of-business (KB) codes. 
The level of KB detail varies by file and
geography.  The KB codes included in each
'stub' may be referenced in SICKEY92.dbf.

EXTRACT   This software system, included on
this CD-ROM, provides access to every file
discussed in the Type of File section of this
abstract.

GO92   This software system, also included on
this CD-ROM, provides a more "user-friendly"
access to selected statistics from the economic
census.  These statistics include number of
establishments, revenue, revenue of a line as a
percentage of total revenue of a KB, and
revenue of a kind of business as a percentage
of the total revenue of a broad revenue line. 
GO92 allows the user to display U.S. data by
revenue line within kind of business, or by
kind of business within broad revenue line.
