The universe is all financial establishments with payroll. 
Establishments with no paid employees are not included in the
Establishment and Firm Size files, but are included in the
Nonemployer Statistic Series.


=>SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION

The information included in the Establishment and Firm Size files
of this CD-ROM is the same as that shown in the printed
Establishment and Firm Size report FC92-S-1.  

Establishment statistics are presented by revenue size and by
employment size; statistics for firms, by revenue size (including
concentration by largest firms), by employment size, and by number
of establishments operated (single units and multiunits). 
Statistics are presented for establishments with payroll by kind of
business on the number of establishments, revenue, payroll,
and employment.

=>GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE

Data are provided for the United States. 


=>SIC/KIND-OF-BUSINESS DETAIL

The 1992 Census of Financial, Insurance, and Real Estate Industries
covers primarily the fields of finance, insurance, and real estate.
Finance includes depository institutions, nondepository credit
institutions, holding (but not predominantly operating) companies,
other investment companies, brokers and dealers in securities and
commodity contracts, and security and commodity exchanges. 
Insurance covers carriers of all types of insurance and insurance
agents and brokers.  Real estate includes owners, lessors, lessees,
agents, and developers of real estate.  The Census excludes
Government-operated businesses.
