Washington: The Bureau of the Census [producer and distributor], 1996 => TYPE OF FILES Summary Statistics => UNIVERSE DESCRIPTION The universe is all manufacturing companies. The sample is based on information from manufacturing companies with $500 million or more in annual shipments, as well as selected smaller companies included to strengthen the sample coverage in individual industry categories. => SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION Data are available for most 2-digit SIC codes on value of shipments, new orders, unfilled orders, total inventories, materials and supplies inventories, work in process inventories, finished goods inventories, inventory to shipments ratios, and unfilled orders to shipments ratios. Data on shipments, new orders, unfilled orders, and total inventories also are available for 75 combinations of 4-digit SIC codes, including over 50 unpublished categories. Data prior to 1982, (available upon request) are book value estimates based on a mix of inventory valuation methods. Data for three shipments series, three total inventory series, and twelve unfilled orders series are not seasonally adjusted. For these series, the not seasonally adjusted data are repeated in the series with an "A" in field ADJ. The unadjusted data are included in both the seasonally adjusted and unadjusted aggregates. The data on this tape conform to the 1987 Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Codes. => GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE Data are available at the National level only. => SOFTWARE ACCESS These data are accessable only through the Extract software. => RELATED DATA FILES: Census of Manufactures, 1992: Industry and Geographic Area Series.
