Washington: The Bureau [producer and distributor], 1995. =>TYPE OF FILE Summary statistics =>UNIVERSE DESCRIPTION The universe of these files is establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing with one or more paid employees. This universe includes all establishments classified in the manufacturing Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes 2011 through 3999. Both operating establishments and auxiliary establishments are included in all files. Manufacturing is defined as the mechanical or chemical transformation of substances or materials into new products. =>SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION These data are exactly the same as shown in tables 1 through 8 of the printed Geographic Area Series reports, with the exception of table 2b which is not shown. In addition, for 1992, data from table 9 are presented in these files; for 1987, these data were presented in the Location of Manufacturing Plants abstract. =>GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE Data are provided by industry level for the following geographic areas based upon their employment size: - Data by Total for All Manufacturing Industries by State for all employment levels - Data by Total for All Manufacturing Industries for States, Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA's) Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Areas (CMSA's), Primary Metropolitan Statistical Areas (PMSA's), Counties, and Places with 450 or more manufacturing employees. - Data by 2-, 3-, and 4-digit Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code for States with 150 or more manufacturing employees. - Data by 2-, 3-, and 4-digit SIC Code for MSA's, CMSA's, and PMSA's with 250 or more manufacturing employees. - Data by 2-, 3-, and 4-digit SIC Code for Counties and Places with 450 or more manufacturing employees. =>SOFTWARE ACCESS In addition to the EXTRACT software, which access all of these data, the GO92 software provide more "user-friendly" displays of selected statistics from these files. These include the Number of Establishments, Total Number of Employees, and Total Value of Shipments. GO92 allows the user to select the geographic area, and shows the data by Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code. =>RELEASE SCHEDULE The data from the Geographic Area Series publications for Manufacturing are released on a flow basis by State, to be included on CD-ROMs 1f through 1j. Data are shown for the U.S., states, and ZIPCODE on CD-ROM series 2. Census of Manufactures, 1987 and 1982: Geographic Area Series. Format is generally the same as for 1992 data presented in file MC92A4; data from the other files was not included on the 1987 CD-ROM. Manufacturing Analytical Report Series: Exports of Manufacturing Establishments, 1992. Includes estimates of the value of manufactured exports and export-related employment, both for directly exported goods and for the indirect requirements supporting manufactured exports.
