This universe includes all establishments classified in the manufacturing Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Codes 2011 through 3999. Auxiliary establishments are included in files MC92SA1 through MC92SA5, and MC92SM1A through MC92SM4; they are excluded from all other files. Manufacturing is defined as the mechanical or chemical transformation of substances or materials into new products. =>SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION These data are exactly the same as are shown in the printed 1992 Census of Manufactures Final General Summary report. This publication summarizes the statistics presented in the Final Industry Series and Geographic Area Series reports, as well as statistics unique to this report. The data from this publication are presented in the 21 files discussed below. INDUSTRY (establishment-based) STATISTICS are featured in files MC92SF1A through MC92SF4. These files contain data on the number of establishments, employment, payroll, value of shipments, value added, capital expenditures, and other statistics for establishments, classified by the 2-, 3-, and 4- digit SIC in which they are primarily engaged. To a lesser extent, these data are also classified by employment-size class, state, and year. The structures of these files parallel the files from the Final Industry Series. GEOGRAPHIC AREA (establishment-based) STATISTICS are featured in files MC92SA1 through MC92SA5. These files contain data on the number of establishments, employment, payroll, value of shipments, value added, capital expenditures, and other statistics for establishments at the All Manufacturing Industries level and, to a lesser extent, by the 2-digit SIC in which they are primarily engaged. These data are also published by state and Metropolitan Area and year. The structures of these files parallel the files from the Geographic Area Series. MISCELLANEOUS (establishment-based) STATISTICS are featured in files MC92SM1A through MC92SM8. These files contain data on the number of establishments, employment, payroll, value of shipments, value added, capital expenditures, and other statistics for establishments at the All Manufacturing Industries level and by the 2-digit SIC in which they are primarily engaged. To a lesser extent, these data are also classified by type of organization and year.
