Washington: The Bureau [producer and distributor], 1997. =>TYPE OF FILE Summary statistics =>UNIVERSE DESCRIPTION The universe of these files is establishments with one or more paid employees primarily engaged in manufacturing. Both operating and auxiliary establishments are included. Manufacturing is defined as the mechanical or chemical transformation of substances or materials into new products. =>SUBJECT-MATTER DESCRIPTION These files present frequency counts of the number of establishments by employment-size by 2- and 4-digit SIC by geographic area. They are similar in concept to Table 9 in the Geographic Area Series reports, which shows corresponding counts for 2-digit SIC groups for counties. The 4-digit SIC detail in these files provide data available nowhere else. =>GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE Data are provided for the U.S., states, counties, and places. =>SOFTWARE ACCESS The data from these files are accessable only through the EXTRACT software; the GO92 software does not access these files. =>RELEASE SCHEDULE The data from the Location of Manufacturing Plants publication are to be released in their entirety on CD-ROM 1i. =>RELATED DATA FILES 1992 Census of Manufactures, Industry Series. Includes national level statistics on establishments by employment-size by 4-digit SIC. Aggregate employment, shipments, value added and other measures are shown for each size class, which may be used in calculating averages per establishment. Such averages may be used in creating synthetic estimates of values at the county or place level where actual data are not provided in the Geographic Area Series.
