Description of Industries and Summary of Findings INDUSTRY 1081, METAL MINING SERVICES This industry is made up of establishments primarily engaged in performing metal mining services for others on a contract or fee basis. In the 1992 Census of Mineral Industries, Industry 1081, Metal Mining Services, had employment of 3.3 thousand. The employment figure was 18 percent above the 2.8 thousand reported in 1987. The total value of shipments and receipts for the industry was $350.4 million in 1992. The value added by mining was $258.8 million in 1992. Value added per employee was $78.4 thousand in 1992; it was $62.7 thousand in 1987. The total cost of supplies used by establishments classified in this industry is withheld to avoid disclosing data for individual companies, while the cost of selected supplies, minerals received for preparation, and purchased machinery installed amounted to $81.8 million and is shown in file NC92F7. The total cost of fuels used in this industry amounted to $16.2 million in 1992. Data on specific fuels used also appear in file NC92F7. Single-establishment companies in this industry with up to 5 employees were excluded from the mail portion of the census. The data for these establishments (and a small number of larger establishments whose reports were not received at the time the data were tabulated) were imputed as described above. These establishments accounted for 12 percent of the total value of shipments and receipts.
