Summary of Findings The total value of shipments and receipts for the 212 establishments classified in mineral industries in North Carolina was $508.2 million in 1992 compared to $526.9 million in 1987. Value added by mining amounted to $322.2 million in 1992, and payroll in mining amounted to $126.4 million. All dollar figures included in this report are shown in current dollars for the years specified and have not been adjusted for inflation. Mineral industries employment in North Carolina was 4.3 thousand in 1992. This is an increase of 8 percent from 1987. The nonmetallic minerals, except fuels, industry led all other mineral industries in the State, accounting for approximately 95 percent of the State's mineral industries employment.
