This industry group comprises establishments primarily engaged in (1) refining petroleum and coal into its constituent parts using fractionation, straight distillation of crude oil, and cracking; (2) manufacturing asphalt and tar paving mixtures and blocks and roofing cements and coatings from purchased asphalt materials; and manufacturing saturated mats and felts with asphalt or tar from purchased materials; and (3) manufacturing other petroleum and coal products from purchased refined petroleum or coal products including products made in coke ovens, not integrated with a steel mill.
